Accordingly, the national CPI this month increased by 0.11% compared to the previous month and increased by 3.23% compared to the same period in 2013. In the past 10 months, the national CPI increased by 4.47% compared to the same period last year. Contributing to the October CPI, food and catering services, the group with the highest weight, increased by only 0.05%, of which food increased by 0.2%, foodstuff increased by 0.01% and eating out increased by 0.07%.

After a sharp increase last month due to tuition fee adjustments, this October, tuition fees themselves were the main driver of the overall index, but to a lesser extent. However, due to the fact that a few provinces and education levels continued to adjust tuition fees, the price index for the education group increased the most, by 1.31% compared to the previous month (of which, education services increased by 1.46%).

This month, there are 3 groups of goods with price reductions: transportation, post and telecommunications, housing and construction materials.

During the month, two special commodities not included in the price index, gold and the US dollar, had opposite movements, decreasing by 2.82% and increasing by 0.18%, respectively, compared to the previous month.

Previously, the two big cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City both announced that their CPIs in October had low increases, or even decreases, with indexes of 0.04% and 0.03% respectively compared to the previous month./.
