Illegal possession of drugs results in a 15-year prison sentence.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 13th, the Provincial People's Court brought the case of Tran Van Doan (born in 1973, residing in Thach Thang ward, Hai Chau district, Da Nang city) for the crime of illegally possessing narcotics to trial.

According to the prosecution's indictment, Doan's criminal act was as follows: At approximately 8:00 AM on October 21, 2014, acting on information from friends, Doan took a bus from Da Nang to Vinh City to buy drugs for personal use. At around 10:00 PM the same day, Doan sat at a beverage stall near the Vinh bus station waiting to buy drugs.

Upon seeing a man around 35 years old, Doan approached him to discuss buying drugs. After reaching an agreement, Doan purchased a package of drugs from the man for 30 million VND. Having successfully completed the transaction, Doan took a taxi to Ben Thuy 2 Bridge to catch a ride back to Da Nang, but was caught red-handed by a patrol team from the Police Protection and Mobile Unit of Nghe An Provincial Police at 10:40 PM that same day.

After examination, Doan's package of heroin weighed 74.435 grams with a purity of 31.7%. Prior to his arrest, Doan had two previous convictions for theft and illegal drug trafficking.

At the trial, Doan sincerely confessed to his crime. Considering Doan's bad character, having been tried twice by courts at all levels without showing remorse, after deliberation, the panel of judges sentenced Doan to 15 years in prison for the aforementioned crime.
