1. Former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew has passed away.

After a lengthy hospitalization for pneumonia, former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, the most influential figure in Singapore's history, passed away earlier this week at the age of 91.

Lee Kuan Yew was also admired by many people around the world, including numerous heads of state. At his funeral, many high-ranking foreign leaders were present to say their farewells.

2. German plane crashes in the Alps, all 150 people on board killed.

2015 saw another horrific plane crash. This was the crash of Germanwings flight 9525, which plunged into the Alps, killing all 150 passengers and crew. However, what is particularly noteworthy is that the co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz, deliberately crashed into the mountains in a suicide attempt.

Meanwhile, the investigation focused on one individual, co-pilot Andreas Lubitz, with findings suggesting that Lubitz deliberately took control of the cockpit and then deliberately crashed the plane into a mountainside in an act of suicide. Many psychologists are now involved, trying to determine whether Lubitz's actions stemmed from resentment or a deliberate act of revenge.

3. The US begins taking action in the fight against IS.

Over the past week, one of the most anticipated countries in the campaign to eliminate IS, the United States, has taken certain actions. First, they dropped 60,000 leaflets over Raqqa, the IS stronghold in Syria, with the aim of encouraging militants to defect from the terrorist group. The caption above the image reads "Daesh Recruitment Office," the Arabic name for IS, conveying the message that anyone who joins the terrorist group will suffer a painful death.
