Will the war against IS be "World War III"?

King Abdullah II of Jordan warned on December 5 during a meeting with US President Barack Obama at the White House.

AFP quoted King Abdullah as affirming that Jordan, the US and many other countries need to cooperate with each other in a strategy against the US and emphasized that this war will be the war "of a generation".

“We need to have a pan-regional approach to this issue. This is a Muslim issue,” King Abdullah said.

“This is clearly a battle between good and evil. In a sense, this is World War III,” King Abdullah said.

“The medium-term goal is security, while the long-term goal is an ideological battle,” King Abdullah said. “A lot of leaders in the Arab and Muslim world have encountered this and they want to say enough is enough.”

Also during this meeting, the US President pledged to increase US aid to Jordan from 660 million USD to 1 billion USD this year.

US President Obama said the US aid money is aimed at promoting ongoing political and economic reforms in Jordan.

This “not only brings prosperity and well-being to the Jordanian people, but they can also help ensure American efforts to enhance American security over the long term.”

Jordan, a close US ally in the Middle East, borders Iraq's Anbar province, which is controlled by IS militants.

In addition, Jordan is also one of the Arab countries participating in the US airstrikes against IS in Syria./.
