Sun Wukong wax figure unveiled at Madame Tussauds museum
A wax figure of Sun Wukong was unveiled at Madame Tussauds in Beijing on Wednesday, the first statue of the mythical character to be introduced at the museum.

Actor Liu Xiao Ling Tong, 56, who played Sun Wukong in the 1986 TV version of the novel “Journey to the West,” attended the ceremony.
The 16th-century novel “Journey to the West” is one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature. It tells the story of the legendary and challenging journey of Tripitaka, a monk of the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907 AD) to the Western Paradise (present-day India) to retrieve the sacred scriptures.

Earlier this month, American and Chinese filmmakers announced plans to co-produce a 3D film based on the literary masterpiece, which is scheduled to be released worldwide in 2017.
