Decision No. 44/QD-XPVPHC signed by Chief Inspector Dang Anh Tuan stated that VTV used an image of a map of Vietnam that incorrectly represented national sovereignty to illustrate the award for the contestants who made it into the Top 4 finalists in the program "Top Secret Mission" broadcast on the evening of May 2 on VTV3.

After discovering the error, VTV posted on its online newspaper that it would temporarily stop broadcasting the program for correction and would take disciplinary action against "a Deputy Head of the Entertainment Program Production Department and individuals assigned to the task but allowed the error to occur.

The competent authority has determined that the behavior leading to the above error is stipulated in Point h, Clause 3, Article 8 of Decree No. 159/2013/ND-CP of the Government regulating administrative sanctions for violations in press and publishing activities. The fine is 15 million VND.

In addition, VTV was also fined for providing false information in the program Chuyen Dong 24h broadcast at noon on May 2 on VTV1.

Specifically, the program reported “Baby rescued from rubble in Nepal,” but Chuyen Dong 24h used a video clip of the rescue of a baby from the rubble of a bombing in Syria that occurred in January 2014.

However, VTV promptly discovered the violation, reported it to the state management agency, remedied the consequences and actively cooperated with the authorities to resolve the incident, so this violation was only fined 10 million VND.

Thus, the total amount of money that VTV was fined was 25 million VND. In fact, the amount is not much, but the repeated violations that were handled by the management agency have significantly affected the reputation of the National Television Station.
