(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of December 26th, under the chairmanship of Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial People's Committee held a press conference on the socio-economic situation in 2014.
Attending the press conference were Vice Chairmen of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Viet Duong and Dinh Viet Hong; leaders of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department and provincial departments and agencies; representatives of the Journalists' Association and central and local press agencies.

At the press conference, the Director of the Department of Planning and Investment, Nguyen Van Do, reported on the socio-economic situation in 2014. Notably, 25 out of 27 socio-economic indicators for 2014 met or exceeded the set targets. The Gross Provincial Product (GDP) is estimated to increase by 7.24%, exceeding the planned 7-8%. Per capita income is estimated at 25 million VND (compared to 22.96 million VND in 2013).

The province has focused on directing investment promotion, successfully commencing several important projects such as Hoa Sen Steel and Nguyen Kim supermarket; directing and completing several projects such as railway overpasses, Dung Bridge, Khe Ang Bridge, etc., creating many positive impressions on the overall appearance of the province. Along with that, key projects such as Vinh Airport and seaports are also actively investing in upgrading and expanding. The socio-cultural sectors continue to see many positive changes. National defense and security, and social order and safety are ensured. However, two targets have not yet been met. The economic difficulties remain significant; limitations and weaknesses exist in the leadership and management of some sectors and localities; and administrative reform is still lacking.

Also at the press conference, Mr. Nguyen Ba Hao, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications, reported on the results of implementing Decision No. 62/2013/QD-UBND of the Provincial People's Committee on handling information reflected in the press. In 2014, the Provincial People's Committee issued 164 directives, addressing 165 issues reflected in the press, of which 146 issues were investigated and processed, accounting for 88.48%.

In addition to the issues that were directed to be addressed, departments, agencies, and localities also proactively inspected and handled 99 issues raised by the press. However, the situation of slow processing of information, or failure to process information as directed by the Provincial People's Committee, still persists; specifically, 19 issues have exceeded the deadline but remain unresolved.

Next, the Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Nguyen Van Huy, reported on the propaganda and mobilization efforts to support the "Tet for the Poor - Year of the Horse 2014" program; and the plan to organize the "Tet for the Poor - Year of the Goat 2015" program, aiming to provide the poor with a prosperous and warm Tet holiday.

At the conference, leaders of media agencies highly appreciated the results achieved by the province in 2014; at the same time, they expressed concerns about the limitations and shortcomings facing the province. Specifically, the Provincial People's Committee needs to take more decisive measures to address the situation where many investors have registered projects but have not yet implemented them.
Many delegates also raised the issue that Nghe An province has a tradition of academic excellence and a high-quality workforce, yet it faces difficulties in finding employment, and talented individuals are not being attracted to state agencies. Therefore, the province needs to focus on guiding, attracting, and providing employment for its young people, thereby improving the province's high-quality human resources.

Some delegates also expressed interest in the roadmap for preserving and promoting the value of the Nghe Tinh folk singing tradition after its recognition by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity; and the issue of managing urban order and urban civilization in Vinh City, befitting its status as a Class I city. Some representatives from media agencies also raised concerns about the difficulties in providing information and appointing spokespersons for the press in some agencies and units; and the limited coordination and dialogue with the press.

Concluding the press conference, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong highly appreciated the role of the press agencies in closely following political, economic, and social tasks, and the practical situation of the province to promptly reflect outstanding events, promote and encourage emulation movements, create high consensus in society, and promote the image of Nghe An to friends at home and abroad. Notably, this included the dissemination of information on land clearance for the construction of National Highway 1A, with Nghe An Newspaper employing an impressive approach of "for the national interest" to create effectiveness and consensus among all strata of the people; and the collaboration with the province in preparing the dossier to honor the Vi Dam folk songs as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also clarified each issue of concern to the press, demonstrating a decisive leadership spirit to resolve them in the coming time. He also expressed his hope that the press and reporters would continue to follow, support, and encourage the province's overall movements, working together to help Nghe An develop further in 2015 and the following years.
