Explaining this decision, according to the Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Ministry of Education and Training, said that in previous years, the award was considered annually.

However, on July 3, 2014, the Government issued Decree No. 78/2014/ND-CP on the Ho Chi Minh Prize, the State Prize and other prizes in science and technology, which stipulates that “the time limit for organizing the awarding of prizes is not less than once every three years for prizes whose prize money is taken from the State budget.”

Therefore, in 2015, the Ministry of Education and Training temporarily stopped considering the Young Science Talent Award for students and will issue a new circular on the award rules to comply with the Government's regulations in Decree 78.

The Vietnam Young Science Talent Award, formerly known as the Student Science Research Award, was organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training under the name of the Vietnam Young Science Talent Award for the first time in 2010.

The award includes two categories: awards for students and young lecturers, to honor students and lecturers with the best scientific research achievements in the country.
