Patriotic emulation movement: Motivation for "Good teaching, good learning"

(Baonghean) - The term of the 16th Provincial Party Congress marked remarkable changes in the Education sector; this is an achievement after 5 years of the sector effectively implementing the patriotic emulation movement with many rich, vivid, practical and influential campaigns and movements.

Since the launch of the patriotic emulation movement, the first task identified by the Nghe An Education sector is to do a good job of “teaching well, learning well”. This is considered a central, continuous task throughout each school year of each school and of each cadre, teacher, student.

In innovating teaching methods, the sector has promoted the application of information technology, increased the organization of teaching demonstrations, teaching conferences, and experience exchanges to improve skills, innovate the work of examinations, tests, and assessments of students' learning quality, and promote their positivity, initiative, and creativity. Self-study, self-training, research, and writing of experience initiatives by the teaching staff have been maintained regularly and systematically. In the past 5 years, more than 5,800 experience initiatives have been sent to the Science Council at the sectoral level for consideration, of which 1,591 experience initiatives have been recognized at level 4 at the provincial level (an increase of more than 115 experience initiatives compared to the period 2005 - 2010), 27 experience initiative topics have been awarded the Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Award; 4 provincial level topics have been successfully defended by education sector officials.

Through the "Two Good" emulation movement, the comprehensive education quality of schools has improved significantly, the rate of good and excellent students in terms of academic performance has increased, the rate of weak and poor students has decreased; the quality of key education has been maintained firmly and made a breakthrough. For many consecutive years, Nghe An has been the province with the highest number of students passing university and college entrance exams in the country... As for international excellent students, for the past 5 years, Nghe An students have had their names on the golden board every year.

In particular, in the 2014-2015 school year, Nghe An education achieved exceptionally excellent results with 5 students participating in Asian and international competitions in the following subjects: 2 students in Asian Informatics, 1 student in Asian Physics, 1 student in International Physics, 1 student in International Mathematics... The quality of education at other levels also made steady progress. For preschool education, actively implementing universal preschool education for 5-year-olds, increasing the rate of mobilizing children to go to nursery school, of which 5-year-olds reached 99.7%; 98% of primary schools in the province have met the standards of the primary education program with the rate of good and excellent students accounting for 65% or more (in the 2007-2008 school year, it only reached 85.7%), with 21/21 district-level units achieving universal lower secondary education.

The campaign "Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh" is considered by units and schools as a regular activity associated with the implementation of the campaign "Each teacher is a model of morality, self-study and creativity". Based on the reality at the grassroots level, some units such as the Department of Education and Training of Quy Chau have launched movements with profound humanity and practical effectiveness, contributing to reducing the number of students dropping out of school due to difficult circumstances, such as the movement "Share rice and clothes", "Warm clothes for poor friends"... Among the students, there have also appeared many brave examples of saving friends, picking up lost items and returning them to the owner; many students are good and filial to their parents and grandparents, striving to overcome difficulties and excel in their studies...

The socialization of education in the province continues to change positively, achieving encouraging results. The highlight of Nghe An's educational socialization in recent years is that the Education & Training sector has effectively coordinated with sectors, organizations, and associations for the promotion of learning in motivating and encouraging teachers and students to compete in "Teaching well, learning well", motivating poor students to overcome difficulties and study well, mobilizing social resources to participate in building the education and training career: nearly 700 billion VND has been mobilized from the socialization movement to build school facilities and equipment...

That success is thanks to the fact that in recent years, the organization and implementation of emulation movements have taken place regularly, continuously, enthusiastically, widely with many diverse and rich forms, closely following the assigned political tasks, associated with the campaigns of the Party, the State, and major political events taking place during the year. The emulation movements have been implemented methodically, with clear, specific, and practical criteria and content. During the organization and implementation process, educational management levels have strengthened inspection, supervision, guidance and direction at the grassroots level, promptly encouraged and motivated groups and individuals who performed well, and at the same time found solutions to overcome difficulties for units that are still facing difficulties to strive to complete the tasks together. Talking about this result, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Chi - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Education and Training affirmed: It is the dedication, devotion to the profession, wholehearted love for students, trust from the people, and respect from students of more than 50,000 cadres and teachers that is the great internal force that determines the success of the activities and emulation movements of the industry.

Continuing to implement Uncle Ho's teaching "Emulation is patriotism, patriotism requires emulation, those who emulate are the most patriotic", in the period of 2015 - 2020, Nghe An Education and Training sector will continue to innovate and improve the quality of organizing emulation movements in the sector, and associated with the effective implementation of Resolution No. 29 on "Fundamental and comprehensive innovation of education and training". To do well, in the coming time, the sector will strengthen political and ideological education for teachers and educational managers to raise awareness and practical actions of each person in performing assigned tasks.

Promote the emulation movement of good teaching, good learning, improving the quality of comprehensive education in schools; direct units and schools to effectively implement the guiding documents of the Ministry of Education and Training on innovation in teaching methods; innovate testing, assessment and examination in a practical direction, correctly assessing the capacity of teachers and learners; pay attention to building and fostering a team of managers and teachers to meet the requirements of current educational innovation; encourage and promote advanced models, exemplary teachers, especially teachers working in remote, isolated and particularly difficult areas of the province...
