According to AFP, the perpetrator, about 40 years old, drove into pedestrians in 5 places in Dijon, shouting "Allahu Akbar" (God is great). Eleven people were hit by his car, 2 of whom were seriously injured, but none were in danger of death, according to the police.

The perpetrator was arrested and initial information said he had a criminal record in the 1990s and spent a long time in a mental hospital.

The attack on Sunday afternoon was the second in a row, after a French Muslim convert stabbed three police officers and was shot dead in the town of Joue-les-Tours on Saturday, December 20. The man, Bertrand Nzohabonayo, 20, originally from Burundi, also shouted "Allahu Akbar" as he attacked the police at the police station.
