Mr. Le Sy Chien - Vice Chairman of Hoang Mai Town People's Committee highly appreciated the significance of this model. |
With the goal of finding and selecting new rice varieties with high yield and quality, bringing people to approach the improved SRI rice intensive farming method, and skillfully applying IPM integrated pest control measures, in the Spring crop of 2015, the People's Committee of Hoang Mai town directed the mountainous commune of Quynh Trang to implement a large-scale field model with an area of 55 hectares in the 10-ton field and Quan Truong field with 460 households participating.
The rice variety used for the model is the 3-line hybrid rice variety 27P31, bred by India. This rice variety has the characteristics of tillering, strong growth, strong plants, straight flag leaves, cold resistance and good resistance to pests and diseases. The average yield is 70 - 80 quintals/ha, with good intensive cultivation it can reach 85 - 90 quintals/ha, long grains, clear rice, good quality rice.

Through model evaluation after field testing, it was shown that when implementing this model, productivity increased by 10%, investment costs decreased by 9.5%, and profits increased by 9.5 million VND/ha compared to the control rice variety Nhi Uu 986. The advantage of this model is that it minimizes the impact on the environment because it does not use pesticides.
The model also contributes to raising awareness among officials and people in changing farming and investment methods, towards concentrated commercial rice production. This is the premise for building and replicating the model to other localities after completing land consolidation and field improvement on agricultural land in Hoang Mai./.
