Seizing the opportunity of rain, districts speed up summer-autumn crop production
(Baonghean.vn) - Due to the impact of storm No. 1, Nghe An has had widespread rain, creating favorable conditions for agricultural production. Taking advantage of the water, farmers everywhere go to the fields to plant rice and take care of summer-autumn crops.
Giang Son Dong commune is one of the communes most affected by the recent drought in Do Luong district. The whole commune has 186 hectares of agricultural land, of which over 80 hectares have been affected by drought and cannot be cultivated, even though it has been more than 10 days according to the summer-autumn calendar. But now that worry has been "solved" when in the past 3 days this place has welcomed many heavy rains, providing enough water for the entire agricultural land area. In the fields of Dap Sen, Gieng, Chanh Ranh... people have taken water into the fields and completed the final stages of land preparation. Mr. Nguyen Canh Kim (Dong Son hamlet) happily shared: "After the rain the day before, my family incubated 16kg of seeds to sow rice seedlings in time for 4 sao of rice fields. After plowing the land, my family will start sowing rice seedlings tomorrow morning."

Farmers in Giang Son Dong commune - Do Luong take advantage of the opportunity to prepare the land for rice cultivation. |
According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Thanh - Vice Chairman of the commune, in just a few days of rain, more than 30 hectares out of a total of 86 hectares affected by drought have been sown by farmers. The remaining area is estimated to be completed in the next few days. Because the summer-autumn crop is nearly 15 days late, farmers are using Khang Dan rice variety. This rice variety is considered to have good endurance, a shorter growing period than other varieties, so it can ensure the winter crop is carried out on time. As for 50 hectares of vegetables and peanuts, it will be carried out in the next 4 days. Not only Giang Son Dong, farmers in many other communes in Do Luong are also happy to prepare the land to sow rice.
Mr. Tran Doan Hung - Head of the District Agriculture Department said: "During the recent prolonged drought, the entire Do Luong district had a total of 545 hectares of agricultural land that could not be produced. Immediately after the rain, the district issued an official dispatch to promptly carry out rescue work for the summer-autumn crop. In the past two days, severely drought-stricken communes such as Thai Son, My Son, Dai Son and Giang Son Dong have taken water and planted nearly 60 hectares of rice. It is expected that by June 30, the remaining area will be ready for the crop. The rice varieties recommended by the district for people to use are short-term varieties such as P6 and Khang Dan."

With great efforts in drought prevention, by June 10, Dien Chau had closed all 13,000 hectares of summer-autumn crops, including 9,200 hectares of rice, the rest were vegetables. The recent rains have quenched the thirst of the entire 9,200 hectares of summer-autumn rice area in Dien Chau. The areas were sown early in mid-May, the rice is in the tillering period, farmers are carrying out the first fertilization of the rice. In his rice field, Mr. Tran Van Quynh, a farmer in Dien Tan, said: "Fortunately, thanks to the water, the rice is now recovering and growing well. People here are promoting early fertilization combined with pruning, weeding and stirring the mud to help the rice grow well. This weather is also very susceptible to pests and diseases, so farmers should check the fields regularly to have timely prevention methods."
In the colored communes with an area of nearly 3,000 hectares of sesame, corn, watermelon... farmers have continued to plant other crops such as green beans and corn. Heavy rains in recent days have created favorable conditions for farmers to sow and care for the seeds. However, in some areas, prolonged rains have also caused some sesame areas to be flooded, posing a risk of waterlogging and cracking watermelons. Farmers have gathered in the fields to drain the water so that the plants do not get waterlogged, and at the same time, they have hoe and weed, adding fertilizer to help the plants recover quickly.
