As the eighth seed in the tournament and currently ranked in the ITF’s Top 15 juniors, Hoang Nam is rated much higher than Wu Tung-lin. In 2013, the two met in the round of 16 of the China Junior 15 Xiamen tournament, and the Vietnamese player won with a score of 6-4, 6-1.

Those advantages were quickly proven by Hoang Nam in the first set, where he won quickly 6-1.

However, the story after that was completely different. The easy start seemed to go against Hoang Nam's habit, causing him to lose focus. Meanwhile, with nothing to lose, Wu Tung-lin went all out and had a resounding second set. The 1998-born talent even took the lead several times. Initially it was 4-3 then 6-5.

In between, Hoang Nam had some spectacular escapes. The ninth game, when the score was 4-4, could be considered a typical example. After being down 40-15, Hoang Nam promptly corrected his mistakes to score consecutive points and successfully break. In the twelfth game, when facing the risk of defeat, Hoang Nam won quickly to equalize 6-6 and force his opponent to a tie-break.

There, Wu Tung-lin took the initial advantage when leading 2-0 then 1-3, 1-4. However, that was also the breaking point for the Taiwanese player. Hoang Nam won all points until 7-4, thereby closing the match with a score of 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).

In the next round, the Vietnamese player faced a real challenge. His opponent was the number one seed Orlando Luz - a Brazilian, currently ranked second in the ITF junior rankings.

Last year, in his first appearance at the Roland Garros (France), Luz reached the semi-finals in both the men's singles and doubles. He then won the men's doubles at Wimbledon with compatriot Marcelo Zormann and the Youth Olympic Games in Nanning (China) - where Luz reached the men's singles final.
