The investigation began late last year. According to Spanish channel Cadena Ser, FIFA is likely to impose a transfer ban on Real and Atletico for violating regulations related to international transfers of young players.
Barca were hit with a similar penalty late last year, when FIFA banned the Catalan club from signing players for a year for breaching the transfer of players from South America.
Faced with the news that they could be banned from transferring, the two Madrid giants remain calm.
“We certainly won’t have any problems,” a Real source told Goal. “We are completely relaxed about this news.”
Atletico have also taken a similar stance on the potential sanction: “We have given all the required documentation to FIFA and feel comfortable cooperating with their investigation. The transfer licenses have been approved by the Spanish Football Federation. Until there is an official decision, we will not comment further.”
The purchase of international youth players is always subject to FIFA restrictions on age, contract length and other conditions depending on each region. However, according to Goal, to get the players they want, European clubs often find ways to circumvent the regulations through various methods related to third-party ownership and transfer licenses.
