Ahead of the decisive match in Group A of the 28th SEA Games men's football, U23 Indonesia and U23 Singapore both have six points, but the team from the archipelago is ranked higher thanks to a better goal difference (+5 compared to +2). Therefore, a draw is enough for them to enter the last four.
It was not easy for U23 Indonesia to carry out their plan to preserve the result. Under pressure to win and with the support of the home crowd, U23 Singapore flooded into the opponent's field right after the opening whistle. However, U23 Indonesia defended very tenaciously, causing the home team's attacks in the first 45 minutes to fall into a complete stalemate.
Not only that, the spirit of U23 Singapore was also doused with cold water at the beginning of the second half. In the 47th minute, rising star Evan Dimas of the archipelago's football team shot into the top corner of the goal, after a pass from his teammate, opening the score for U23 Indonesia.
The difficulties were compounded for U23 Singapore when Wailoon received a red card in the 65th minute. With a shortage of players, the home team had to accept defeat and was eliminated from the group stage. Not long after the match, head coach Aide Iskandar resigned.
Meanwhile, this result brought U23 Indonesia into the semi-finals, meeting defending champion U23 Thailand.
