Türkiye: Bringing the toilet issue into the election campaign.
(Baonghean.vn) - Ahead of the Turkish parliamentary elections on June 7th, a debate has erupted between the parties regarding the amenities in the presidential palace. A notable point of contention is whether President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's toilet is made of gold.
During a campaign rally held on June 1st, Kemel Kilicdaroglu, the leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP), criticized President Erdogan's construction of a massive and overly extravagant presidential palace.

Kilicdaroglu argued that this was a sign of delusion and proof of Erdogan's authoritarianism. Even at a press conference on May 30th, the CHP leader strongly condemned the President's "building palaces, buying airplanes, Mercedes cars…and even installing toilets made of gold."
In an interview on state television channel TRT, President Erdogan responded to his opponent's accusations by inviting Kilicdaroglu to the presidential palace for inspection. He then extended a formal invitation to Kilicdaroglu. President Erdogan even declared that if the toilet in the presidential palace were made of gold, he would be willing to resign.

It is known that Erdogan's presidential palace, which was inaugurated in the fall of 2014, covers an area of 150,000 square meters with 1,000 rooms and cost $615 million. Immediately, the presidential palace became a target of attack from opposition parties.
