(Baonghean) - The time until the establishment of the ASEAN Community is gradually shortening, member countries are making every effort in all fields to have solid preparations, contributing to the common success of the region. The photo and documentary film festival about ethnic groups in the ASEAN community launched by the Ministry of Information and Communications on June 4 has truly brought great significance, an important contribution of Vietnam to the process of great solidarity among ethnic groups in ASEAN, for a culture full of identity, diversity and unity.

This photo and documentary film festival is a continuation of the success of the two previous festivals: "Photo and documentary film festival on the country and people in the ASEAN community in 2010" and "Photo and documentary film festival on environmental protection and climate change in the ASEAN community in Vietnam in 2013". Domestic media leaders said that the two previous festivals were both deeply humane and were enthusiastically received by ASEAN countries as well as the international community. This is also a strong mark in foreign information work, promoting the image of the country and people of Vietnam in particular and demonstrating the cultural harmony in ASEAN countries in general.

This festival is considered an important event, promoting cooperation and mutual understanding among countries in the region, towards the establishment of the ASEAN Community at the end of this year. This is an opportunity to record and vividly reflect the images and achievements of the peoples in terms of culture - economy - society - religion; introduce and honor a vibrant and open ASEAN society, consistent with the national characteristics of each country, in which everyone has equal access to opportunities for development, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, language or cultural and social origin, demonstrating a dynamic, united, cooperative ASEAN with great potential for development.

The categories of the competition at this festival include: photos (single photos, photo groups), films (reportages and documents reflecting on the fields: culture, customs, language, health, education, industry, agriculture, environment). The subjects of the competition are organizations and individuals with the nationality of ASEAN member countries, this will open up diversity in the publications and more specifically, will bring closer the distance between citizens of countries in the region, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and attachment under the common roof of ASEAN.
