Vietnam's number one tennis player defeated Maxime Mora in two sets in the opening round of the junior tournament at Roland Garros on May 31 (local time).

In this tournament, Ly Hoang Nam is seeded number 10, while Maxime Mora is present in the official round thanks to a wild card. On the ITF junior rankings, Vietnam's hope is ranked 12th, while his opponent is ranked 106th. With that difference, Hoang Nam is expected to have an easy victory.

However, the match was initially very even, with both players breaking each other's serve games. The turning point of the first set occurred in the seventh game when Hoang Nam broke for the third time to lead 4-3. He then won the remaining two games to win 6-3.

In the second set, Hoang Nam let Maxime Mora fight back to tie the game at 3-3 despite winning all three previous games. However, similar to the previous set, every time he faced danger, the Vietnamese talent brought out his full strength and precision in his long shots. He quickly extinguished the French player's hopes of a comeback and won 6-4.

In this match, Hoang Nam's first serve and winner points were both lower than his opponent's, but he was superior in winning points on the second serve (67% compared to 29%).

This victory helped Hoang Nam enter the second round, meeting the winner of the match between Nathan Ponwith (USA, ranked 25th in the world) and Louis Wessels (Germany, ranked 63rd in the world).
