According to Afghanistan's National Security Agency (NDS), Saeed was among 30 ISIS-linked militants killed in the attack in Achin district, Nangarhar province, near the border with Pakistan.

Meanwhile, two commanders of the IS branch in Afghanistan also confirmed Saeed's death and stated that the airstrike occurred while the insurgent commanders were meeting.

Saeed was appointed leader of the “Khorasan province”—an area encompassing Afghanistan, Pakistan, and parts of neighboring countries—in January 2015 when a Taliban group in Pakistan switched allegiance to IS.
