Libya is an oil-rich country in North Africa, but has been in turmoil since the 2011 coup that overthrew leader Muammar Gaddafi.

The Libya Dawn Islamist armed alliance took over the capital Tripoli in August 2014 and established a government there. Meanwhile, the internationally recognized government had to move to the eastern city of Tubrok.

Since September 2014, the United Nations has played a role in mediating dialogue between the rival factions in Libya, but the conflict continues despite the parties having agreed to a ceasefire.
