In a statement, Pentagon spokesman Colonel Steve Warren said: “We are assessing the results of this operation and will provide further information at the appropriate time.”
He added that the operation took place on the "night of June 13th."
It is unclear what type of operation the US military has deployed in Libya, but Washington has previously deployed drones to attack targets in the North African country.
In Libya, rival governments and parliaments exist, and powerful militias are fighting for influence and a share of the country's oil resources. Jihadist groups have exploited this chaos to their advantage.
