Ukraine reopens its border with Crimea.
According to the Russian news agency Tass, on December 27, Ukrainian authorities reopened the border with Crimea to allow stranded passenger buses to pass through.
This move comes a day after Ukrainian customs forces unexpectedly closed checkpoints in Armyansk and Pepekov, leaving thousands stranded and unable to travel to Crimea or to Ukraine for Christmas and New Year to reunite with family.

Many people were even forced to abandon their cars at the Ukrainian border, walking to checkpoints on the Russian side to continue their journey. Meanwhile, some, losing patience, returned to Ukraine. At the same time, cars traveling from Crimea to Ukraine were cleared at Russian checkpoints without any problems. However, many checkpoints on the Ukrainian side of the border remained strictly monitored.
Currently, there are three operational bus and train stations in Crimea, serving passenger traffic to and from Ukraine and Russia. In May of this year, due to heightened tensions with Russia, the Ukrainian authorities also decided to temporarily close all checkpoints located in Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
