Over 138 hectares of shrimp farms were infected with disease during the first crop season of 2015.

(Baonghean.vn) - Since the beginning of this year's shrimp farming season, the area of ​​shrimp farms showing signs of disease throughout the province is 138.5 out of a total of 1,263 hectares. In response to this situation, on the morning of June 15th, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development organized a conference to review shrimp farming production in the first crop of 2015 and propose remedial measures for the future.

Attending the conference were Mr. Tran Huu Tien - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, along with representatives from the Aquaculture Sub-Department, the Veterinary Sub-Department, and nearly 60 shrimp farmers in the province.

Mr. Tran Xuan Hoc, Head of the Aquaculture Sub-Department, reported on the shrimp farming situation throughout the province.

Mr. Dang Van Minh, representative of the Veterinary Sub-Department, presented the work on disease prevention and control in aquaculture during the first six months of this year.

Compared to previous years, the phenomenon of intestinal and hepatopancreatic diseases in shrimp appeared quite early and had many complex developments in many shrimp farms in Quynh Luu district and Hoang Mai town. This was due to prolonged hot weather affecting the health of the shrimp. Furthermore, farmers still lacked proper management of their farming areas. Regarding breeding practices, there were still many shortcomings, with many cases of direct stocking without nursery rearing and the use of broodstock of unknown origin and quality.

Mr. Tran Huu Tien, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, delivered the concluding remarks at the conference.

In light of the above situation, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to strengthen inspections of shrimp breeding and trading establishments in the coming period. At the same time, it will focus on directing and guiding farmers to effectively implement technical measures to manage environmental factors in farming areas. For areas affected by disease, support will be provided in terms of medicines and chemicals for treatment.
