General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his high-ranking delegation arrived in Washington DC, USA at 7pm today (July 6, Vietnam time). This is considered a historic visit, as this is the first time the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam has officially visited the United States.
According to Vietnam News Agency, at exactly 8:00 a.m. (local time, 7:00 p.m. Vietnam time) on July 6, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived at Andrews military airport in Washington DC, beginning an official visit to the United States of America at the invitation of the US Government.

Welcoming General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation at Andrews military airport were representatives of the US Government; Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh, officials and staff of the Embassy and a large number of Vietnamese people in the United States; ambassadors and chargé d'affaires of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries in the United States.

 This is the first time the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam has officially visited the United States. The visit takes place 40 years after the end of the war, the liberation of the South, and the reunification of the country, 20 years after the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations, and 2 years after the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries. |
 The visit aims to promote positive and stable development of bilateral cooperation in the coming time, deepening the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the United States. The two sides will also exchange and share views on a number of international and regional issues of mutual concern. |
