PSG were down to 10 men after midfielder Rabiot received an indirect red card in the 27th minute. However, despite having to play away from home with a man down, the defending champions still found victory thanks to Lucas Moura's 57th-minute strike.
This is PSG's first win in the opening matches of the season since 2010 and gives coach Laurent Blanc's team more confidence to aim for a fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title. Last season, PSG won the domestic treble of Ligue 1, the National Cup and the League Cup.
PSG were without Ibrahimovic due to injury in the match at Lille. New signing Di Maria was also only in attendance after arriving for $68.5 million.
PSG were the better team with Matuidi opening the scoring. However, Lille played aggressively and had a big advantage after Rabiot's red card. The PSG midfielder received two consecutive yellow cards in just 5 minutes after fouling Florent Balmont and Sebastien Corchia.
In a 10-man game, PSG took the initiative to defend and play ambush. The visitors got the goal after an attack that hit the Lille defense with Matuidi's precise pass to Lucas Moura.
Lille failed to show any attacking power despite being behind. PSG then added defensive midfielder Thiago Motta to block the way to goalkeeper Trapp's goal.
