(Baonghean.vn) - To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the traditional day of the Armed Forces of Military Region 4 (October 15, 1945 - October 15, 2015), on the evening of September 8, at the Military Region 4 Sports Arena, the 2015 Army Open Volleyball Cup was solemnly inaugurated.

Attending, monitoring, directing, and inaugurating the tournament were Major General Dang Trong Quan, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Military Region 4, Head of the Organizing Committee; Major General Nguyen Van Luan, Deputy Director of the Military Training Department, General Staff; and Major General Nguyen Huu Truyen, Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 4, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee.

The Army Cup Volleyball Tournament is an annual event organized by the Ministry of National Defense to assess the training results and professional skills of volleyball players from high-performance sports centers, teams, and clubs throughout the military. This provides an opportunity for athletes to gain experience and improve their skills, laying the foundation for them to achieve good results in the upcoming second round of the 2015 National Championship.

The tournament features 10 men's and women's volleyball teams from units within and outside the military, including 5 men's teams: The Cong - 15th Army Corps, 4th Military Region, Border Guard, 4th Army Corps - Becamex, Trang An - Ninh Binh and 5 women's teams: Air Defense - Air Force, Thong Tin Lien Viet PostBank, Vietnam Commercial and Industrial Bank (VietinBank), Tien Nong - Thanh Hoa and PVD Thai Binh.

The teams are divided into two groups, men's and women's, with each group playing a round-robin tournament. The top four teams from each group advance to the semi-finals; the two winning teams in the semi-finals will compete for first place; and the two losing teams in the semi-finals will compete for third place.

Following the opening ceremony, two matches took place: in the first match, the Tien Nong - Thanh Hoa women's team defeated the Air Defense - Air Force team 3-1; in the second match, the Military Region 4 men's team defeated the Trang An - Ninh Binh team 3-0.

The tournament will run until September 16, 2015, at the Military Region 4 Sports Arena.
