(Baonghean.vn)- On July 21, the Traditional Liaison Committee of Battalion 2 (Nghe An Do), Regiment 27, Front B5 - now Battalion 5, Regiment 27, Division 390, Corps 1 held a traditional meeting on the occasion of the Battalion being awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State.
Attending the meeting were Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Huy Hieu, Hero of the People's Armed Forces, former member of the Central Executive Committee, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense, former Commander of Regiment 27; Lieutenant General Hoang Ky, former member of the Party Central Executive Committee, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, former Commander of Battalion 2 and many veterans of Battalion 2 during the resistance war against the US to save the country (1968-1975) from all over the country. Battalion 2 “Nghe An Do”, Regiment 27 was established in early 1968 in Nam Dan hometown; the predecessor was Battalion 43 of Nghe An Provincial Military Command, selected from the elite children of Nghe An hometown. Honored to be in the combat formation of Regiment 27, Battalion 2 achieved many outstanding feats at B5 Quang Tri Battlefield (1968 to 1973) as well as in the Great Victory of Spring 1975, unifying the country (1974-1975).

During the resistance war against the US to save the country, the Battalion fought more than 600 large and small battles, annihilated more than 10,000 enemies, captured more than 500, destroyed 102 tanks, armored vehicles, 125 transport vehicles, 7 105mm cannons, shot down 26 planes... Typical examples include the battles at Gio An, Gio Linh (1968); the battle at 84 peak. In particular, in the ambush battle to destroy the enemy transport convoy to Khe Sanh, Lao Bao in 1971, the Battalion annihilated more than 100 Americans and destroyed many military vehicles, and received a telegram of praise from General, Commander-in-Chief Vo Nguyen Giap.
On June 23, 1971, Battalion 2 attacked and destroyed the enemy at Phu Lo Hill 544, destroyed 6 105mm cannons, 2 radar systems, captured 6 enemies, and broke an important link in the "McNamara electronic fence". After that, Battalion 2 participated in many fierce battles at Quang Tri Citadel in 1972, participated in the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign, liberated the South, and unified the country... From 1968 to 1975, the entire Battalion had 973 martyrs, including 517 martyrs from Nghe An.

At the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Huy Hieu, Lieutenant General Hoang Ky and delegates reviewed the 57-year tradition of fighting, building and growing of the unit, especially sharing the joy when in 2015, the Battalion was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State.

On this occasion, the Traditional Liaison Committee of Battalion 2 presented gifts to relatives of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, relatives of martyrs and seriously wounded soldiers on the occasion of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day, July 27.
After this traditional meeting, the Battalion Liaison Committee continued to organize a march to the source, to the old battlefield to express gratitude to the local people who protected, expressed gratitude and encouraged comrades and teammates; verified and provided information on the situation of searching for the remains of martyrs who were officers and soldiers of the Battalion who died in the war for the relatives of the families...
