Wild garlic - A precious medicinal herb
Lily bulbs, also known as wild garlic or forest garlic, are the underground stem scales of many lily plants (Lilium sp.).
Lilium tenuifolium Fisch.; Lilium concolor Salisb., belonging to the lily family (Liliaceae). Lilium contains alkaloids (anthocyamine, mannan...), starch, protein, mucilage, and fat.
With a slightly bitter and sweet taste, and neutral in nature, lily bulbs enter the heart and lung meridians. They have the effect of moistening the lungs, relieving cough, and calming the mind. They are used for heart yin deficiency and lung yin deficiency with symptoms such as chronic cough, dry cough with little phlegm, phlegm mixed with blood, palpitations, anxiety, fear, and panic.

Dosage and method of use: 12 - 30g/day by boiling, decocting, stir-frying, or grilling.
It calms the mind and soothes the nerves, treats fever, nervous exhaustion, anxiety, insomnia, and panic attacks.
Lily bulb and Anemarrhena rhizome decoction: 24g lily bulb, 12g Anemarrhena rhizome. Boil and drink.
Lily and Rehmannia Decoction: lily bulb and rehmannia root, in equal amounts. Boil and drink.
Lung tonic to relieve cough:
Lily and Golden Bell Decoction: Lily bulb 4g, white peony root 4g, Angelica sinensis 4g, Fritillaria cirrhosa 4g, raw Rehmannia glutinosa 8g, processed Rehmannia glutinosa 12g, Ophiopogon japonicus 6g, Scrophularia ningpoensis 3g, Platycodon grandiflorus 3g, licorice 4g. Decoct and drink one dose daily. Treats lung deficiency causing cough, yin deficiency with excessive heat, dry and sore throat, coughing up phlegm with blood, red tongue with little coating, and weak pulse.
Baihua Gao: Lily and Coltsfoot flower, in equal proportions. Grind into a fine powder, mix with honey to form pills. Take 12g three times a day, after meals, chew the pills and wash them down with ginger water or boiled water. Treats dry lung cough with bloody sputum.
To treat chronic gastritis and abdominal distension: use the lily bulb and atractylodes decoction: lily bulb 63g, atractylodes 12g. Boil and drink. If the stomach is cold, add galangal 4g; if there is severe abdominal pain, add Corydalis yanhusuo 12g. It can also be made into pills.
Medicinal dishes containing lily bulbs:
Lily bulb juice or decoction: 100g of fresh lily bulbs, crushed and juiced, or brewed with water for drinking. Used for patients with lung disease who have hemoptysis or bloody phlegm.
Red bean, almond, and lily bulb porridge: 10g lily bulbs, 6g almonds, 60g small red beans, and a suitable amount of white sugar. First, cook the red beans. When the red bean porridge is almost cooked through, add the lily bulbs and almonds and continue cooking. Add sugar to taste. Eat as a breakfast item. Suitable for people with chronic dry cough due to bronchitis.
Contraindications: Not suitable for people with coughs caused by cold or diarrhea caused by deficiency of cold.
