Hot Version 2 is hoping for more!
(Baonghean) - Every time the rainy season comes and floodwaters rise, the Nong 2 hamlet in Tri Le commune (Que Phong district) is almost completely isolated, and students have to miss school because there is no bridge across the stream…
The only road from the center of Tri Le commune to Nong 2 village crosses a makeshift bridge built by the villagers using bamboo and scrap wood over the Nam Nghieu stream; even a motorbike crossing it is precarious.
Bản Nóng 2 has 27 households with 125 people, isolated from the commune center by the Nậm Nghiêu stream. Because no bridge has been built yet, the villagers have contributed bamboo and wood to construct a very rudimentary bridge, about 3 meters long and over 1 meter wide. The underside consists of bamboo and small wooden planks tied together for support, while the top is covered with salvaged wooden planks. Travel is difficult, and trade is even harder. Some families in the village grow acacia trees, but when they harvest them, they often have to sell them at a lower price than the market rate because traders have to add transportation costs. Every day, the 29 students from the village have to be escorted across the bridge to school by adults, and during the rainy season, when floods occur, they are forced to stay home from school. “I have to take my grandchild to and from school twice a day, so I can't do any work. But I'm worried about letting him go to school on his own. And when the floodwaters come and inundate the rice fields on the higher ground, sweeping away the temporary bridge, the children in the village have no choice but to stay home from school because our Nong 2 village is completely isolated from the outside world,” said Ms. Quang Thi Hoa, a local resident. Mr. Ha Van Nhat, another resident, added: “During heavy rains and floods, people have to buy and stock up on food and supplies because they might be isolated for several days.”

For many years, after each rainy season, the people of Nong 2 village have had to work together to repair the bridge. However, because the villagers' contributions are not substantial, and the bridge constantly needs reinforcement, the situation has not improved much. Speaking to us, the head of Nong 2 village, Mr. Lo Van Binh, said: "Many accidents have occurred, with people and vehicles falling into the river, causing injuries. But what can we do? The people here have no other way. And during the rainy season, this makeshift bridge is swept away by the rising water, as it cannot withstand the destructive force of the river. Therefore, we earnestly hope that the authorities will pay attention and create conditions for Nong 2 village to soon have a proper bridge so that the villagers and students can travel safely, especially during the rainy season."
