This news has put an end to the legend of a controversial figure, becoming the most talked-about event today, perhaps second only to the stock market crash… Official information states: Zou Yong, a billionaire and representative of the Jiangxi Provincial People's Congress, a close disciple of Wang Lin, gave him 5 million yuan (17.7 billion VND) to become his apprentice and learn qigong. He then spent another 4.4 million yuan buying him a Rolls-Royce and other valuables hoping to "achieve enlightenment," but after two years of learning nothing, he demanded his money back. This led to conflict between master and disciple, resulting in three separate legal cases… On July 9th, two thugs, Liu Feng and Zhu Litong, kidnapped Zou Yong, murdered him, burned his body, and threw his bones into a lake. On the evening of July 14th, police arrested the two murderers, who confessed to being hired by Wang Lin. On the evening of July 16th, Jiangxi police ambushed and arrested Wang Lin and Huang Yugang (a Shenzhen accomplice), bringing them back to Jiangxi. Wang Lin confessed to the crime.

"Qigong master" scammer

Major media outlets, including Xinhua News Agency and People's Daily, reported and commented on this "all-powerful" figure. Xinhua wrote that Wang Lin had close ties to many disgraced officials, including Chen Anzhong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Congress; Song Chenguang, Vice Chairman of the Jiangxi Provincial Political Consultative Conference; Zhu Mingguo, former Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Political Consultative Conference; Ding Xinfa, Director of the Jiangxi Provincial Procuratorate; Liu Zhijun, Minister of Railways, etc. Newspapers were also filled with information and photos of Wang Lin with politicians, businessmen, and celebrities such as Jack Ma, Jackie Chan, Zhao Wei, and Jet Li.

According to the People's Daily (overseas edition), for the past two years, the story of teacher and student Wang Lin and Zou Yong, who were once as close as father and son, suddenly turning against each other and suing each other over economic disputes, has been one of the hottest news stories in Chinese media. Starting in November 2012, Wang Lin repeatedly wrote petitions to the National People's Congress, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the Ministry of Public Security, the Jiangxi Provincial People's Congress, and the Jiangxi Provincial Procuratorate, accusing Zou Yong of spending 3.8 million yuan to buy his seat, holding a foreign passport as an elected representative, and being a leader of organized crime... Zou Yong was equally scathing, filing petitions everywhere accusing his "mentor" of seven crimes: practicing medicine illegally, having multiple wives, fraud, tax evasion, bribery, gambling, and illegal possession of firearms.

Wang Lin was born in 1952 in Jiangxi. In the 1990s, China experienced a craze for Qigong, and along with Yan Xin and Zhang Baosheng, Wang Lin rose to prominence with his "extraordinary abilities" such as "Reviving a severed snake," "Snake appearing from the bottom of an empty basin," "Taking objects from the next room," "Wine appearing from an empty cup," etc., becoming the richest man in Jiangxi and famous nationwide.

Wang Lin claimed to have learned the art of Qigong healing from a high-ranking monk on Mount Emei (Sichuan) since childhood. In 1979, he was arrested and sentenced to 7 years in prison for fraud. In July 1985, he escaped, was recaptured, and sentenced to another 3 years. After his release, he continued his activities under the guise of Qigong, networking widely in various circles. Since a series of famous figures such as Jack Ma (owner of Alibaba Group), Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Zhao Wei, etc., sought him out as a disciple, Wang Lin's reputation spread throughout the political, business, and entertainment worlds.

Even a minister like Liu Zhijun relied on rituals and protective charms, and Wang Lin was even appointed "national advisor" by the highest-ranking official... After Liu Zhijun's downfall, the press exposed a comical story: in 2006, Wang Lin gifted Liu a "sacred" stone, called "mountain-supporting stone," with the instruction to place it on his desk to "ensure his stability for life" (!?). However, Liu Zhijun not only failed to remain stable but also received a death sentence (with a stay of execution) for corruption.

"Bedtime rituals" for female celebrities.

In 2013, when Wang Lin was under investigation, the "Southeast News Express" published an article titled "Wang Lin Performs Ritual of Enlightenment on Female Celebrities," revealing that the "Qigong master" used "spirit absorption techniques" in bed with many famous stars, and also published photos of him hugging, kissing, and playing with his "adopted daughters." According to the article, Wang Lin boasted that several female celebrities whose careers were declining, whose marriages were unhappy, who had been childless for a long time, or whose children were sickly, had proactively sought his help to resolve their problems. He claimed to have successfully used this technique on dozens of women, including many "Queens of Pop," "Queens of Singers," "Queens of Films," and MCs, as well as many of his adopted daughters...

According to The Paper, two floors of Wang Lin's five-story villa in Shenzhen are dedicated to displaying photographs of him with high-ranking officials, celebrities, successful businessmen, and foreign leaders. Wang Lin also published a 367-page photo book that briefly outlines his "life and career," primarily featuring these kinds of group photos.

In 2013, following a complaint from Zhou Yong and several articles criticizing and exposing Wang Lin's qigong performances as mere magic tricks and scams, the authorities launched an investigation into seven charges against Wang Lin, including illegal possession and use of firearms. Wang Lin fled to Hong Kong to hide, hoping to face punishment, but the investigation dragged on for a long time before being terminated due to "insufficient evidence." In June 2014, Wang Lin was acquitted and returned to Jiangxi, continuing to exploit his connections to engage in fraudulent business practices.
