South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted the ministry as saying that the exercise, called Able Response 15, involved officials from the two countries' defense ministries, along with officials from the Ministry of Health and Welfare and dozens of other South Korean agencies.
The exercise will test and enhance the two countries' joint response capabilities to natural or man-made biological threats that may emerge on the Korean Peninsula, according to a press release from the South Korean Ministry of National Defense.
The exercise has been conducted annually by the US and South Korea since 2011 to proactively respond to increasing biological threats in the region.
