Minister Dinh La Thang awarded prizes to the winning units for the architectural design of the Deo Ca tunnel.

The project was started in late 2012 under the BOT (build-operate-transfer) form with a total adjusted capital of VND11,378 billion. Based on a reduction of more than VND4,000 billion compared to the total investment initially approved for the project, Deo Ca Investment Joint Stock Company - the investor - requested the Ministry of Transport to allow the use of this reduced capital to invest in the construction of Cu Mong tunnel.

Up to now, the Prime Minister has approved the investment in the construction of Cu Mong tunnel, adding Cu Mong tunnel to the Deo Ca tunnel project and assigned Deo Ca Investment Joint Stock Company to continue implementation.

The investor has completed the feasibility study and the Ministry of Transport has approved the final report on Cu Mong tunnel so that construction can begin in September 2015.

On November 2, 2014, the project opened the Co Ma tunnel, of which Deo Ca tunnel alone has completed 3,200m/8,250m, and is currently under construction on the entire site. By September 2015, phase 1 of the project will be completed, including the Co Ma tunnel and more than 2km of the southern access road.

To ensure construction progress and quality, the investor has directed the construction units to organize 3 shifts, regularly control the quality assurance, labor safety and environmental sanitation according to the procedures currently applied to the project.

With the goal of making the Deo Ca tunnel project a typical, outstanding, environmentally friendly, and modern architectural project, Deo Ca Investment Joint Stock Company organized a competition for architectural design options for the entire project to select a suitable architectural solution.

After 3 months of launching, the organizing committee received 9 entries. On July 8, the selection council unanimously selected 1 first prize and 3 third prizes. The first prize was awarded to the architectural design of Atelier Dubosc et Associes (France) with a design that stylized the life of Vietnamese fishermen into architectural blocks for the main items of the project (toll station, traffic control center, tunnel entrance, rest stop).

Speaking at the award ceremony, Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang highly appreciated the investor's coordination with relevant units to come up with the best solution to ensure the technical and aesthetic quality of the project because this is an extremely important project, ensuring the smooth operation of the entire National Highway 1.

“The Ministry of Transport is currently implementing the construction of the Deo Ca tunnel, Phu Gia-Phuoc Tuong. Along with the construction of the Cu Mong tunnel and Hai Van tunnel No. 2, and the completion of the entire National Highway 1 in 2015, it will help vehicles reduce travel time on National Highway 1, ensuring traffic safety,” said Minister Dinh La Thang./.
