40 people buried in serious landslide in China
On the morning of August 12, in Shanyang County, Shaanxi Province, China, a serious landslide occurred, burying 40 people.
It is known that the area where the landslide occurred is a worker camp of a local mining company and a number of houses of residents living in the area.

General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang immediately issued instructions to direct the rescue work. As of 5:00 p.m. on August 12 (local time), 14 people had been rescued, and rescuers were searching for the remaining people.
The accident happened at around 0:30 a.m. on August 12 (local time). It is estimated that about 1 million cubic meters of rock and soil fell while people were sleeping, so the chance of escape was not much.
Immediately after the accident, local authorities mobilized 12 motor vehicles of various types and 150 firefighters to the scene to coordinate with local forces to urgently carry out rescue work.
General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang immediately issued instructions, requiring the Shaanxi provincial government to make every effort to search for the buried victims, rescue the injured, minimize the number of casualties, arrange shelter for the victims and their families, clarify the cause of the landslide, carefully check the geological situation around the area, and ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
Under the direction of Xi Jinping, a working delegation of the Chinese government immediately set off for Shaanxi, coordinating with local authorities to direct rescue work and visit the families of the victims.
As of 5:00 p.m. on August 12, 14 victims had been rescued, their lives were temporarily out of danger, but due to heavy rain, search and rescue work encountered many difficulties.
