Federer defeats Murray, advances to the final to face Djokovic.
The Wimbledon semi-final wasn't as dramatic as fans had hoped. Federer defeated the home player in just three sets with a score of 7-5, 7-5, and 6-4.
The home crowd and commentators could only express their admiration for Federer as they witnessed the Swiss legend defeat Andy Murray in the semi-finals. At nearly 34 years old, Federer was able to replicate the form that had propelled him to the top of the tennis world many years ago.
Calm, skillful, sharp, and especially with an exceptionally good serve, Federer won the sets with scores of 7-5, 7-5, and 6-4.
All three sets followed the same pattern: Federer secured a break in the final game, winning the set. This year's Wimbledon final mirrored the match from a year ago: Federer faced Novak Djokovic, who had defeated Richard Gasquet in the other semi-final.
Federer (33 years and 338 days old) is the oldest player to reach the Wimbledon final since Ken Rosewall 41 years ago. Federer has won all 10 of his Grand Slam semi-final matches on grass courts, winning 30 of 31 sets.
"I'm really happy right now," Federer shared. "Everyone expected a long match, maybe four or five sets. I thought so too. I think I won thanks to my serves. Facing one of the best returners in the tournament, I can't believe I only had one break point."

Federer shone with his serves, racking up 20 aces. As Murray noted before the semi-final, the Swiss player's strength lies in his movement and how he hits the ball after serving. His aggressive attacking style gave Federer an 84% first-serve win rate. The "Express Train" also won 29 points out of 42 net approaches.
Murray, with the support of the home crowd and big-name fans like Sir Alex Ferguson and Prince Andrew, simply couldn't show anything against Federer.
"I'm not sure if this was his peak form, but it was definitely Roger's best performance against me," Murray said sadly. "He clearly deserved to win. If he continues to serve as well as he did today, I think Roger will win the final."

After a back-and-forth battle in the first set, Federer secured a break in the 12th game. Federer's sharp backhand returns caused Murray considerable difficulty. The decisive point that allowed Federer to break Murray's serve was a backhand shot.
Murray put in a strong effort in the second set to avoid an early defeat. As in the 10th game, the Scottish player managed to save five break points in a game that lasted 17 minutes. This was the most exciting and high-quality game of the match. But just two games later, Murray couldn't prevent Federer from breaking his serve. After a series of rallies, Federer won the decisive break point. Stunned by Federer's play, Murray had no chance to turn the situation around.
