According to sources, armed elements crossed the Turkish border and then, with the help of local human traffickers, joined the flow of illegal migrants to reach European countries.
Their aim is to establish a "Caliphate" throughout the world.
In a related development, Spanish police on September 7 arrested a 19-year-old female student in the city of Figueres on suspicion of recruiting fighters for IS.
This is the latest in a series of women arrested for allegedly supporting the jihadist group.
