Accelerate poverty reduction and improve people's lives

(Baonghean.vn)- On September 17, the Steering Committee for Poverty Reduction of Nghe An province held a conference to evaluate the implementation of poverty reduction work in the first 8 months of the year and deploy tasks for the last 4 months of the year.

Comrade Hoang Viet Duong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the conference. Attending were members of the Provincial Steering Committee for Poverty Reduction.

In the first 8 months of the year, the Provincial Steering Committee for Poverty Reduction has done a good job of advising and directing, contributing significantly to the province's rapid and sustainable poverty reduction.

In the first 8 months of the year, poverty reduction and social security work continued to receive attention and participation from all levels, sectors, socio-political organizations and people. This is considered an important political task, associated with the socio-economic development strategy in the province. Policies and projects under the poverty reduction target program continued to be implemented and integrated effectively with socio-economic development programs, national defense and security in the area.

In the first 8 months of the year, the Social Policy Bank disbursed VND905,472 billion to poor and near-poor households, students and people in disadvantaged areas to borrow capital for production, business, study and labor export. By June 2015, outstanding loans reached VND6,299 billion with 305,514 borrowers.

Comrade Nguyen Bang Toan - Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs reported on a number of issues related to poverty reduction work in the province.

The province has purchased and issued 796,540 health insurance cards to the poor and near-poor; 173 poor households have received support to build and repair houses; accelerated investment support to build infrastructure for poor communes, especially disadvantaged communes in mountainous areas, coastal areas in terms of roads, schools, medical stations, rural markets, and electricity. Continuing to implement specific policies in poor districts according to Resolution 30A of the Government, the districts have supported the development of agricultural, forestry and fishery production, purchased seeds and animals for the people; supported the assignment of forest protection contracts, construction of traffic works, irrigation works, schools, etc.

The policy of socializing poverty reduction work has been implemented more and more effectively. The Fatherland Front Committees at all levels have mobilized 13 billion VND for the Fund for the Poor. Units assigned to help poor communes in the West continue to have many specific and effective activities; businesses, humanitarian and charitable organizations continue to pay attention to supporting the poor in many different forms...

Currently, the poverty rate in the province is about 8.5%, down 1.8% compared to the beginning of the year. Infrastructure, material and spiritual life of the people have been improved, contributing to political stability, socio-economic development and the elimination of social evils in the area.

Comrade Lam Van Doan - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Nghe An Newspaper spoke and proposed building poor household management data to facilitate monitoring and developing poverty reduction plans.

The goal of Nghe An province is to reduce the poverty rate to 7.5% by 2015. To achieve that goal, the Steering Committee for Poverty Reduction has determined that it is necessary to continue to promote propaganda work, raise awareness of poverty reduction among all classes of people about the Party and State's policies and guidelines on poverty reduction; focus on directing and effectively implementing programs, projects, mechanisms and policies of the Central and the province on poverty reduction support in the area, promote new rural construction; strengthen vocational training, create jobs, etc.
