According to the concluding statement, hosting the 31st SEA Games in 2021 is Vietnam's responsibility within the community of Southeast Asian nations, and also contributes to promoting the country's image and boosting high-performance sports. However, this is a major undertaking that requires careful preparation and reporting to the Politburo.
The Prime Minister has assigned the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to take the lead and coordinate with relevant agencies in developing a plan for organizing the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam in a spirit of innovation.
This includes clearly defining the number of sports and competition events for each sport, ensuring they are suitable for Vietnam's conditions, while also aligning with the competition programs of the Olympic Games and the Asian Games (ASIAD); and clarifying the training content for athletes to participate in the 31st SEA Games.
Regarding infrastructure, the Prime Minister requested that no new construction be funded by the state budget, focusing primarily on utilizing existing facilities and upgrading or repairing them (if necessary).
The Prime Minister has instructed the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to coordinate with the Ministries of Finance and Planning and Investment to carefully calculate and include this in the medium-term investment plan for the period 2016-2020, while maximizing social mobilization of resources.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism shall report to the Standing Committee of the Government for consideration of the aforementioned Project before submitting it to the Politburo for a decision on the policy; and promptly provide official feedback to the Southeast Asian Sports Federation at a time appropriate to the organization's Statutes.
