Typhoon Mujigae made landfall in Guangdong province with tornadoes in several areas, causing power outages and falling trees, killing at least five people and injuring nearly 200.
Typhoon Mujigae made landfall in China at around 2 p.m. yesterday, according to the Southern Metropolis Daily. Hours later, residents in Shunde County, Foshan City, Guangdong Province, posted a video on social media showing a 100-meter-tall tornado in the area.
"The lights in the house flickered for a few seconds, then the power went out," said Ms. Ly, who lives in Hai Chau district, Guangzhou. Not only was there a power outage, many apartment buildings also had their water cut off.
The storm killed at least three people and injured 80, authorities in Shunde said. Authorities had earlier temporarily cut off power to an industrial park as a safety precaution.
