The newspaper said the helicopter is being developed by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), one of the country's leading arms manufacturers.
AVIC Chairman Lin Zuoming was quoted as saying that the stealth capabilities of the aircraft would "replicate the combat models" of the People's Liberation Army.
"It is a trend that the infantry will become increasingly dependent on helicopters, as they are more effective in combat and more flexible than armored vehicles. In addition, this type of helicopter also transports supplies for border guards," said Director Lam Ta Minh.
According to the same newspaper, AVIC's chief designer of the helicopter, Wu Ximing, said the aircraft will have "super maneuverability in complex environments, and outstanding combat coordination capabilities," but did not provide further details.
