Germany urges EU not to set ceiling on migrant quotas
AFP reported that German Chancellor Angela Merkel on September 9 urged the European Union (EU) to agree on an unlimited quota for allocating refugees, which would go far beyond the plan announced by the European Commission (EC) on the same day.

Speaking to the parliament, Ms. Merkel emphasized: "We need a binding agreement on the distribution of refugees based on fair criteria between member states (EU). We cannot declare that we will share a specific number of refugees. We need to think about how we will deal with the refugees who come here. We cannot just set a ceiling and declare that we are not interested in anything beyond that number."
According to the plan announced earlier by EC President Jean-Claude Juncker, EU member states will share the burden of 160,000 refugees.
