Support duck breeds for Chau Thai people (Quy Hop)

(Baonghean.vn)- Early in the morning, loudspeakers rang out throughout the villages of Chau Thai commune (Quy Hop), inviting poor households to receive ducks granted under Decision 102/2009 of the Prime Minister.

At 6am, Mr. Ha Van Nam in Phay village had already brought his cage to receive ducklings. His family was supported with 15 ducks along with feed. He confided that in previous years, the government had provided financial support, but when his family was in need, they spent it, which did not help production. Last year, he was also supported with acacia seedlings, but the sun was too hot to plant and they died. This year, he received 15 ducks at once and heard that officials would soon come to guide him on how to care for them, so he was very happy.

Like Mr. Nam, Ms. Vi Thi Lan from Na Toong village came to receive the ducks very early. Her family has 4 members, and their livelihood mainly depends on slash-and-burn farming and wet rice, but this year the drought has lasted so long that wet rice fields cannot be cultivated, and she is worried that another year of famine will come. "The government is right to give ducks to raise, but the money given will be spent in 2 days" - Ms. Lan said with a smile when receiving the flock of ducks.

Chau Thai is a disadvantaged commune of Quy Hop district. The whole commune has 23 hamlets with 576 poor households and 2,472 people. According to Decision No. 102/2009/QD-TTG of the Prime Minister on direct support policy for poor households in disadvantaged areas, each person is supported from the Government's capital with the rate of 100,000 VND/person/year.

However, according to Mr. Lo Minh Soat - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, during the distribution process, poor households often do not use the money for the right purpose. Therefore, this time, the Commune People's Committee, through the District Ethnic Affairs Department, held a meeting to collect opinions and received high consensus. The Commune People's Committee decided to distribute ducks and duck feed to poor households. Each person was given 03 ducklings and 1 kg of feed. The total value of the distribution was 247,200,000 VND.

Talking to us, Mr. Loc Van Thi - Head of Phay village said: "This is the first time poor households in the village have been provided with duck breeds. Before that, the commune also thoroughly instructed the villages to regularly check and disseminate care methods to households to ensure the development of the duck flock. If it develops well, we will encourage people to replicate this model"./.
