An excellent soldier on the press front

Born in Thua Thien Hue in a family that valued knowledge, journalist Nguyen Thanh Phong was well educated by his parents since childhood. Growing up, in 1954, he gathered in the North and lived in Nghe An province; passionate about journalism, he soon entered the writing profession at the age of 17. Since 1961, he was a reporter for Nghe An Newspaper (one of the first 7 people to take on the task of building the provincial Party newspaper from the early days of its establishment). Thanks to his constant efforts and learning, in 1962, he was honored to join the ranks of the Communist Party of Vietnam. In November 1975, he transferred to Nhan Dan Newspaper. With a spirit of eagerness to learn, for 4 consecutive years, from 1973 to 1977, he both worked and diligently completed the University Literature training course at the University of Education.

During his time working at Nhan Dan Newspaper, journalist Nguyen Thanh Phong experienced many different jobs. From being a resident reporter for the newspaper in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, he then moved to work as a main reporter and senior reporter at the Party Building Department of Nhan Dan Newspaper. Thus, journalist Nguyen Thanh Phong, although born in Thua Thien Hue, during his time in the regrouping and working, had many connections with Nghe An, which he considered his second hometown.

At Nhan Dan Newspaper, journalist Nguyen Thanh Phong could write many types of news, articles, reports, investigations, and memoirs with a sincere, simple, close, and easy-to-understand voice, which was recognized by readers and colleagues. He was appointed as Deputy Head of the Department, Head of the Party Building Department of Nhan Dan Newspaper until his retirement. Regardless of his position, in wartime as well as peacetime, journalist Nguyen Thanh Phong always tried to complete the assigned tasks well. And his comrades and colleagues always respected journalist Nguyen Thanh Phong for his frankness and sincerity in his work and life. After many years of work and dedication, in November 2004, journalist Nguyen Thanh Phong retired and settled in Hanoi, continuing to maintain an exemplary lifestyle; He is an exemplary husband, father, grandfather, and a strong spiritual support for his family and children... Since his retirement, he has had many opportunities to return to Nghe An, showing much concern and sharing with generations of colleagues working in the provincial party newspaper of beloved Uncle Ho's hometown.

With his contributions to the country and the Party newspaper, Journalist Nguyen Thanh Phong was awarded: First-class Medal of Resistance against America, National Salvation; First-class Labor Medal; Commemorative Medal "For the cause of Vietnamese journalism"; Commemorative Medal "For the cause of Nhan Dan Newspaper"; Badges of 30 years, 40 years, 50 years of Party membership.

Also in the law of birth - aging - sickness - death, due to old age, weak health, serious illness and long-term hospitalization, journalist Nguyen Thanh Phong quietly passed away at 2:25 a.m. on September 9, 2015 (ie July 27th of the lunar calendar). He had excellently fulfilled his responsibilities as a party member and soldier on the press front. Throughout his 76-year life, more than 50 years in the party, journalist Nguyen Thanh Phong was evaluated by his agency, colleagues, neighbors and family as having tried his best to live a meaningful life for the noble ideal of a party member for his homeland and country, for the Party's journalism career and fulfilling his responsibilities to his family, wife and children.
