Level 15 "volcano" affects the East Sea
On October 16, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said a very strong storm is active in the sea off the eastern coast of the Philippines and has the international name Koppu (Vietnamese name is Crater).
At 1 p.m. on October 16, the eye of the storm was approximately 500 km east of Luzon Island (Philippines). The strongest winds near the eye of the storm were at level 13 (wind speeds of 135 - 150 km/h), gusting to level 15 - 16.
In the next 24 hours, the storm is forecast to move mainly westward, at about 15 km per hour. At 1 pm today (October 17), the storm's center was about 140 km east of Luzon Island. The strongest winds near the storm's center are at level 14-15 (150-185 km/h), gusting to level 17.
Regarding Typhoon Koppu, yesterday Philippine President Benigno Aquino III went on live television to call on people to be ready to respond when the storm is forecast to make landfall in the northern part of the country on October 18.
