(Baonghean) - Converting and increasing the value of crops, developing concentrated livestock, and promoting the potential and advantages of each locality is a major policy of Nam Dan district. Thereby, aiming to increase the value of agricultural production in the area in recent times.

Forming specialized areas

We returned to Nam Tan commune, Nam Dan district, along the flat asphalt road next to the Lam river alluvial land are lush green melon fields. Mr. Phan Dinh Luong in hamlet 7, Nam Tan commune excitedly said: "This year, my family planted over 10 sao of watermelon, traders came to buy directly from the field. After deducting expenses, the profit was nearly 5 million VND/sao. This is a significant source of income for farmers in Nam Tan area". As for Mr. Nguyen Van Hai's household in hamlet 5, one of the first people to bring watermelon to grow on this land, he clearly remembers when the policy of converting crops was issued, after much persuasion, only about a dozen households participated. The river alluvial land is very suitable for watermelon, just the first season was a great success. From then on, there was no need to propagate or mobilize, people just followed the trend of planting, many households invested in drilling wells, building roads, and bringing electricity to the fields. The area of watermelon in the commune has increased rapidly, now the whole commune has up to 80 hectares, bringing high economic efficiency. Thanks to the correct solutions and policies of the Party Committee and local authorities, currently, all 362 hectares of fertile land in Nam Tan commune are effective. The income of the people in the whole commune has increased rapidly from 10 million VND (in 2010) to nearly 17 million VND/year in 2015.

Similar to the semi-mountainous commune of Nam Dan district, in recent years, the Party Committee and the government of Nam Thai commune have effectively implemented the conversion of crop structure, initially forming a commercial vegetable production area. The whole commune currently has 276 hectares of agricultural land, of which 143 hectares are rice fields, 133 hectares are colored land... With the fragmented terraced fields, it is impossible to build model fields like other plain communes, the commune has converted the crop structure on garden land, hillsides, and mountain slopes to increase people's income, creating a commodity production area with its own local brand. The whole commune has 8/8 hamlets growing nearly 20 hectares of Malabar spinach, which is harvested quickly and regularly, reaching about 200 million VND/ha/year; jasmine plants reach more than 10 hectares, earning from 250 - 300 million VND/ha/year. Thanks to that, currently 100% of Nam Thai production land area has an income of 40 million VND/ha/year or more, of which nearly 100 hectares have an income of more than 80 million VND/ha/year.

The entire Nam Dan district currently has over 6,700 hectares of agricultural land. To improve the efficiency of agricultural production, in 2011, the Nam Dan District Party Committee issued Resolution No. 09 on converting crop structure, building specialized commodity production areas towards increasing productivity, quality, and high value per unit area, period 2011 - 2015. After implementing the resolution, the agricultural production structure has had many changes in the direction of increasing the value of goods per unit area, bringing many models of crop structure conversion, effectively applying new scientific and technical advances to the area. The total area with an income value of over 50 million VND/ha/year is 9,081 hectares (accounting for 63.7% of the total agricultural production land area). Initially, specialized production areas, high-income fields, large-scale fields were formed such as: the model of commercial vegetable production with an income of 300 - 400 million VND/ha/year in Nam Anh and Nam Xuan communes and is gradually developing in more difficult areas such as Van Dien, Nam Nghia, Nam Hung, Nam Thai... the lemon growing model in communes along the Thien Nhan mountain range: Nam Loc, Nam Tan, Khanh Son, Nam Kim also brings in an annual income of hundreds of millions of VND.

Developing livestock farming in the direction of farms and family farms

Having graduated from intermediate level in animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, Mr. Ho Viet Bang in Hamlet 4, Nam Anh Commune boldly borrowed capital from the Agricultural Bank, contracted 5 hectares of ineffective rice production land of the commune to produce animal feed and develop comprehensive livestock farming in the direction of goods. Each year, the family's revenue from selling animal feed and breeds of geese, ducks, chickens, and pigs is about 3.9 billion VND, the profit is about 1.3 billion VND. From there, it creates jobs and stable income for 10 workers with a salary of 5 - 6 million VND/month. Or the VAC farms of Mr. Nguyen Kim Chien, Hamlet 4, Mr. Nguyen Hong Anh, Hamlet 2, have an annual revenue of 600 - 700 million VND, giving a net profit of 300 - 600 million VND/year. Developing livestock farming in the direction of farms and family farms is the direction in livestock development in Nam Anh. Currently, Nam Anh commune has 104 farm and household models.

Not only Nam Anh, it can be said that based on potential and advantages, each locality in Nam Dan has had a suitable direction for livestock development such as comprehensive farms raising pigs, fish, ducks, pigeons... contributing to increasing income for people such as in Nam Anh, Nam Xuan, Kim Lien, Nam Loc, Nam Thanh communes. Or the movement of raising buffaloes and cows for fattening has become a high-income profession developing in Nam Cuong, Nam Trung, Khanh Son, Hong Long, Hung Tien communes... In addition, Nam Dan attracts investment projects in the agricultural sector such as Dai Thanh Loc farm in Nam Hung, Han Hieu Private Enterprise in Nam Loc, Phuong Huy Company Limited in Nam Xuan. Currently, the whole district has 685 small and medium-sized farms and households; of which 40 are typical farms in terms of income meeting the province's criteria.

Identifying livestock as one of the strengths and conditions for development of the locality, the Standing Committee of Nam Dan District Party Committee issued Resolution No. 13-NQ/HU dated September 30, 2011 on livestock and aquaculture development and Resolution No. 15-NQ/HU dated October 26, 2011 on improving the quality of investment in farm economic development in the period 2011 - 2015. The district has promptly implemented support mechanisms and policies of the province as well as the locality, creating favorable conditions for land and capital support to encourage agricultural development, training on science and technology, and disease prevention. Thanks to that, the proportion of livestock in the district's agricultural sector accounts for nearly 50%, gradually reducing the model of household and small-scale production to concentrated livestock production of high-quality and effective commodities.

Comrade Le Hong Son, Vice Chairman of Nam Dan District People's Committee said: "In the coming time, Nam Dan will continue to call for and create all conditions for businesses inside and outside the province to invest, build effective production models, increase the value of agricultural production, to develop Nam Dan's agriculture industry firmly, gradually increase people's income".
