Difficult to expand safe vegetable production area

(Baonghean.vn) - In recent years, many safe vegetable production models have been deployed in a number of localities. However, widespread replication still faces many difficulties.

Vinh City has 8 communes with land specializing in growing vegetables. After many efforts and investments, only vegetables in Nghi An have been granted VietGAP certificates. However, right here, there are still many difficulties and shortcomings in the production of safe vegetables. Mr. Phan Van Son, hamlet 8 Kim Binh, Nghi An commune, has more than 1 sao of land planted and cared for according to the safe vegetable method. He shared: "Consumption is still difficult. My family brings it to Vinh market, Nghi Phu market, and Coi market to sell, but the price is no different from normally produced vegetables. Sometimes it is even harder to sell because it is not as beautiful."

The entire Nghi An commune has nearly 30 hectares of vegetable cultivation, including about 5 hectares of RAT in the two hamlets of Kim Binh and Kim Trung. In 2013 and 2014, a portion of RAT products were purchased by Phu Tu and A Chau companies. But now, people have to sell all of them at the markets themselves.

Currently, Hung Dong commune (Vinh city) has 46.5 hectares of vegetable cultivation. In this vegetable area, the city has supported investment in infrastructure to build power lines, irrigation water tanks, and invested with farmers in building 5 hectares of greenhouses, and provided training in science and technology for the people. However, Hung Dong has not yet been granted a VietGAP safe vegetable certificate.

Food safety in green vegetables is really becoming a matter of concern for the whole society. In recent years, many units and organizations have supported the construction of RAT production models such as local agricultural extension stations, Department of Science and Technology, JICA (Japan)... Many models have been successful such as the 10-hectare RAT model in Dien Thanh (Dien Chau), Nghi An (Vinh City), or in 2014, JICA deployed 4 GAP vegetable production sites in Nghi Lien, Nghi An (Vinh City), Hung Phu (Hung Nguyen) and Van Dien (Nam Dan)...

However, there are still many shortcomings that need to be resolved. Production is mainly scattered, cultivated using traditional techniques; the production process does not meet the requirements of the process, the organization of management, supervision, and confirmation of implementation is slow and lacks synchronization; the organization of production - processing - product consumption linkage still faces many difficulties, not meeting actual needs.

In reality, with the support of the State, people can ensure production according to the correct process, but the weakest part is still the intermediary supporting product consumption.
