Speaking on receiving the good news, Meryl Streep said: “It is exciting to be back at the Berlin Film Festival as president of the jury. The responsibility is a bit heavy, but I hope to be president of an excellent jury like in previous years. I am very grateful for this honor.”

Streep has been a guest of the Berlin International Film Festival for many years and won the Silver Bear in 2003, along with actresses Julianne Moore and Nicole Kidman, for her role in The Hours.

In 2012, the Berlin Film Festival honored Streep with a Lifetime Achievement Award and screened a collection of her films.

The Berlin International Film Festival is one of Europe's major film events.

The 2016 Berlin Film Festival is scheduled to open on February 11, 2016.
