"The most important issue is Vietnam's territorial integrity"
“The Prime Minister’s response to the National Assembly’s questions was brief and covered many issues, in line with the Politburo’s direction. It must be affirmed that friendly relations are necessary for both Vietnam and China. Vietnam’s sovereignty cannot be compromised!” - Lieutenant General Nguyen Quoc Thuoc, former member of the Party Central Committee and former Commander of Military Region 4, emphasized.

The Prime Minister has reaffirmed and clearly affirmed the determination of the Party and State in protecting the integrity of independence and sovereignty. What do you think and feel about the content of this statement by the Prime Minister?
Lieutenant General Nguyen Quoc Thuoc:The Prime Minister has reported to the National Assembly on these issues many times. The viewpoints, positions and policies of our Party and State are clear, consistent, basically appropriate, and have achieved many results in reality, but there are also many difficulties and challenges. We must continue to be steadfast, persistent and creative in implementing the correct policies of our Party and State. I think this issue is very clear.
This time, the Prime Minister spoke briefly and comprehensively about the issue. It must be affirmed that friendly relations are necessary for both Vietnam and China. Vietnam's sovereignty cannot be compromised. These are two distinct issues, and sovereignty cannot be overlooked for the sake of friendship. After all, the most important issue is Vietnam's territorial integrity. It would be better if there were more time for the Prime Minister to speak in more detail. When the Prime Minister answered as above, I have no other opinion. I only hope that Vietnam and China will jointly implement a policy of friendship and equality, which will benefit both sides, especially Vietnam. Friendship that results in the loss of national sovereignty is unacceptable.
Vietnam's sovereignty over the East Sea is immutable and will never change. The struggle will be long. But no matter how long it is, we must never give up. The country's history has gone through thousands of years of Chinese domination. Our ancestors persevered for a thousand years to regain independence, and now the country and the Vietnamese people must do the same. Our ancestors have handed it over to us, and if we have not succeeded in fighting, we must continue. To fight, the country must become stronger and stronger. Its position must become stronger and stronger.
We are not united, not unanimous; the economy does not develop rapidly; comprehensive strength is not promoted, then we will still face many difficulties. Our ancestors accumulated strength for a thousand years to regain independence, under current conditions if we cannot do as our ancestors did, then we have sinned against our ancestors.
Ten years, twenty years, fifty years, a hundred years or even longer, Vietnam's territory must return to Vietnam. Our country's sea is the country's living space. As long as it exists, it will survive and develop. That stance must never change.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Quoc Thuoc - former Commander of Military Region IV: Vietnam's sovereignty cannot be compromised. |
Dear Lieutenant General, in the future, how should Vietnam behave towards China?
- Economic business must be fair. There is an issue that National Assembly delegates have raised that the trade-import relationship is unbalanced, and that we must limit the trade deficit with China. The greater the trade deficit, the greater the level of dependence. If we want to avoid dependence, we must rise up and gradually balance the economy and other interests.
What we have learned in the past 5 years, in the 12th Party Congress term, and the 14th National Assembly term, we will make a stronger breakthrough based on what we have done and what we have not done in the past term.
Thank you very much, Lieutenant General.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received 17 questions and 24 direct questions. Among the contents that the Prime Minister spoke about, the issue of protecting territorial sovereignty was of interest to many delegates and voters. Answering questions from delegates, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasized: We are sincere and do our best to strengthen friendly relations for equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with China in all fields. "I would like to emphasize that we are determined to fight to protect our independence, sovereignty, territory and national interests in accordance with the Party's policies and resolutions, the State's constitution and laws, as well as the United Nations Charter, international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and regional commitments, especially the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) between ASEAN and China," said the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister also said that, along with socio-economic development, Vietnam must strengthen national defense and security, improve the effectiveness of foreign affairs, ensure political security, social order and safety, and strengthen the great solidarity and combined strength of the entire nation. We must maintain peace and stability to create a favorable environment and conditions for building, developing and protecting the Fatherland. |
