“Three Times” is the 16th film by Taiwan’s leading director Hou Hsiao-Hsien. Since its release in 2005, the film has been considered an Asian classic and one of the best works about love in world cinema. Chang Zhen and Shu Qi play the main roles in all three parts of the film. Her impressive performance helped Shu Qi win the “Best Actress” award at the 2005 Golden Horse Film Festival (Taiwan).
“Cape No. 7” is the debut work of director Wei De Sheng, born in 1969. The top-notch music helped the film win the “Best Film Score” award at the 2008 Golden Horse Film Festival. After winning three awards at the 2008 Taipei Film Festival, the film was widely released and became the second highest-grossing film in Taiwan’s box office history with a revenue of 13.8 million USD. The film was selected by Taiwan as the work competing for the “Best Foreign Language Film” Oscar that same year.
Released in 2010, “When Love Comes” by director Zhang Zuoji dissects the complex multi-generational family in contemporary Taiwan with a series of cultural conflicts and generational fractures. The film is imbued with Eastern philosophy and shows the role of women in Taiwanese families. The low-budget work won the “Best Film” award at the 2010 Golden Horse Film Festival. All films shown are in original Chinese, with English and Vietnamese subtitles.
