Former assistant to former Chinese Minister of Public Security removed from National Assembly
Reuters quoted Chinese media on September 27 as saying that Zhou Benshun, a former senior aide to former Public Security Minister Zhou Yongkang, has been stripped of his parliamentary status after being investigated for bribery. The move is intended to pave the way for his prosecution.

Mr. Zhou Benshun, no relation to Zhou Yongkang, was the former Secretary of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee.
Mr. Chu Ban Thuan's dismissal from the National Assembly means he will lose his immunity from prosecution.
In July, the Chinese Communist Party's anti-corruption agency accused him of "serious violations of discipline and law," a phrase often used to refer to official corruption.
