However, Mr. Stoltenberg refused to specify the specific number of Russian Armed Forces soldiers in Syria.

"I will not comment on specific numbers, but I can confirm that we see a significant Russian force in Syria, including air force, air defense and also ground troops based at air bases that the Russian Federation has, as well as (Moscow) increasing the presence of warships," Mr. Stoltenberg announced.

Thus, Mr. Stoltenberg confirmed that Russian forces have increased their presence in recent weeks in Syria. Previously, the media reported that the Pentagon seemed to have received information about Russia deploying infantry weapons in Syria.

Meanwhile, on the same day, October 6, Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee (Lower House) of Russia, Admiral Vladimir Komoyedov affirmed that the country will not conduct operations in Syria with the participation of Russian infantry forces./.
